Recording a Zoom Session
Faculty and staff with a licensed Zoom account have the ability to create and save recordings of their hosted Zoom sessions. Below you will find instructions on how to record your meetings and the different options available for saving your recordings.
Recording your Presentation
Once you’ve started your Zoom meeting, click the Record button in the toolbar to record your
meeting or presentation.
You have the choice of Record on this Computer or Record to the Cloud. Record on this
Computer lets you save the recording files to your hard drive. Record to the Cloud lets you save
the recording to Zoom cloud space.
Recording indicators appear in the upper left hand corner of the window. You can pause and
stop the recording here. Your participants will hear an audio clip stating when the recording is
started, paused or stopped. Start/Pause and Stop buttons also appear in the toolbar.
After you stop your meeting/presentation, you’ll see a window confirming your recording is being
produced. Leave this window alone unless you want to stop converting the recording. This may
take some time depending on the length of your meeting.
Meeting recording can also be enabled automatically when scheduling a meeting. This is useful when the Host knows they will want the meeting recorded ahead of time.
To do this, select the "Options" menu found in the schedule a meeting page, you man need to pick "Show" to display all of the options. Check off the box that says "Automatically record meeting" and then decide if you want the recording saved to your computer or to the cloud. Once your meeting has been configure click "Save" to finish scheduling the meeting.
Recording to your Computer
If you chose "Record on This Computer", you’ll then be asked where you want the recordings to be saved on your hard drive. Browse to the folder you want the file saved and click OK.
Three files will be created when saving a recording to your computer, but the mp4 file is the one you will need playback and or sharing. You can find additional information about the other exported file types and how to use them on Zooms support page.
Recording to the Cloud
If you chose "Record to the Cloud", you will receive emails letting you know once your cloud recording and transcripts are available with links to both files. The first link will enable you to view, download and edit your recording. The second link is to share your recording with the integrated transcript. This recording with transcript can only be viewed in the Zoom cloud.
