Setting up 2-step Verification
Multifactor Authentication (MFA), also know as 2-Step Verification is an important and required security feature for all Bard accounts. 2-step verification adds an extra layer of protection to your account beyond just a password. Instead of just relying on a single password, it requires you to provide two different forms of identification (Password + verification method) to prove you are who you say you are. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if your password has been compromised.
When setting up verification methods make sure you are using devices or applications that you will have access to while you are on campus, at work, or travelling. Generating and saving a list of Backup codes in a safe location is highly recommended in the event you loose access to your primary verification method.
If you are unable to access any of your verification methods the Helpdesk staff can generate login codes for you to use. Just like resetting a password this will require the student or employee to verify their identity with a government issued photo ID.
- Sign into your Google account on your computer or laptop. Then go to https://myaccount.google.com/security
- Scroll down to the section titled "Signing in to Google". Select "2-Step Verification".

- In the 2-Step Verification window click "Get Started". If you already have a 2-step Verification option added you will instead see a list of verification options including the methods you have configured.
- You can add/edit your verification methods by clicking on the different options. We recommend setting up at least two methods in case the first option fails or is unavailable.
- You must have at least one verification method active at all times to comply with Bard security policy.
